Bye Bye MA...Hello ME!

We will load the private coach and head north to Freeport, ME with our first stop at Wolfe's Neck Center for Agriculture and the Environment. Projects could include fruit and veggie production or trail building and maintenance.

With a pit stop for some lunch, we will head south to our home away from home for a few days--The Ecology School in Saco, ME. The group will get set up in our yurts and learn about the ABC's of ecology. We will wrap up the day with dinner and relaxation around the fire pit!

Day 2: Monday, June 15

Portland and Beyond!

After a delicious breakfast, we will hit the road for Portland and head to Maine Needs. The group will be building kits for folks to receive daily essentials throughout Maine--this may include toiletries, school supplies, snacks, etc.

Following a lunch break, we will jump back in the coach to the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals and give some love and care to the horses. Be prepared to get a bit dirty, but who cares when you get to cuddle up and help the beautiful 4 legged creatures!

Home to the Ecology School for dinner, evening activities and bedtime!

Day 3: Tuesday, June 16

More to Do in Portland!

After breakfast, we will jump back in the coach and volunteer at the Preble Street Food Security Hub pealing, cutting and packaging fruits and vegetables. Preble Street provides over 2600 meals a day to local residents.

There's a twist to this experience! The group will be split into two and while some participants are food prepping, the others will be meeting with folks from The Telling Room, a local non-profit that empowers youth through writing and sharing their voice. They will be guiding participants through a reflective writing experience that allows everyone to put the pieces from the school year learning, the trip experience thus far and their vision for their future service learning to paper. Then they will swap opportunities (and eat lunch).

After wrapping up at the Food Security Hub, the group will either head back to the Ecology School for some time to canoe/kayak or pit stop at a local beach for some relaxation!

Dinner and evening activities to follow!

Day 4: Wednesday, June 1

It's Time to Head South!

We will sadly say goodbye to our home for the last few days as we pack up and head south down the coast. Just over the border of ME in Portsmouth, NH is Albacore Park, a National Historic Landmark and the final home of the USS Albacore submarine. We will get a tour of the sub and learn about its history.

After some lunch, we will head back across the border to Kittery, ME and volunteer at Mainspring/Footprints Food Pantry. The group will be packing snack bags for our youngest residents. These provide a fun treat for local kids! I'm sure there will be some other tasks we can help with too!

Exploration continues as we head back across the border to Rye, NH and Jenness Beach where we will be partnering with the Surfrider Foundation on a beach clean up and learning about the important work they do to protect our beaches and waters globally! We might even be able to help with water testing!

Time to get silly and head to PiNZ Bowl for dinner, bowling and arcade games! The night will wrap up a local Portsmouth, NH hotel where the group will definitely be ready to rest their heads!

Day 5: Thursday, June 18

Animals, Food Insecurity and the End to an Epic Trip!

On our last day, we will start by heading north to Cape Neddick, ME that's home to the Center for Wildlife. This facility has treated over 90,000 injured and orphaned wild animals and provides nature based education programming. Participants will get to meet the animal "ambassadors", gain a deeper understanding of the work being done at the C4W and have an interactive activity.

After some local lunch, we will head back across the border to NH for the last time and assist the folks of Gather as they work to create a hungry free community. We might be picking veggies int he gardens, helping sort donations, prep meals, etc. There is plenty to be done!

We will also visit the NHSPCA for some time with the animals there before the service learning comes to an end.
